Welcome to the Carolina Conference Blog

Dear fellow coaches,
Listed below are a few examples of what could be posted. I will take what you send me and just copy it to the blog. If you would like to send me end of the year stats for each of your sports either together or separately that is up to you. Once it is posted I will not remove it without your permission. I have found with the WWW this is a great way to get stats out for your kids and that there are people that do look at it. I have been running the AGHS track blog for three years and parents, coaches, and relatives can glance it and see what they may miss otherwise. I can also post pics as well if you like. All you have to do is send them to me. If you have any questions you may email me and I will respond as fast as I can. I will turn off the comments section as not to have anyone make any rude or unexpected comments. I can also place a chat box on it if anyone desires. That is a box that allows you to make comments or anyone else and do it and get the word out if needed without me moderating anything. I have been blessed to be in this conference as a coach for 4 years and have always been impressed with our ability to work together and to make this one of the best conferences in the state. I hope we can make this work. Have a great summer and I look forward to seeing each of you soon. I will also delete these examples on the blog as soon as I get our first entry. We can also place conference info for us here as well.

You can contact me with any suggestions or ideas at trackman06@gmail.com. Jeff Dufour

Early-inning uprisings spark Rosewood

A week-long break seemed to favor Rosewood's offense Thursday evening.

The Eagles collected four first-inning runs on just two hits and rode the momentum to a 12-2, five-inning victory over Spring Creek in the 2008 Deacon Jones Invitational. Rosewood, the two-time defending champion, opposes archrival Princeton in today's title game at 7 p.m.

Taylor Allen smacked a two-run homer in the first. Cody Richards added an RBI double and scored on Steven Bostic's sacrifice fly to cap the offensive uprising.

"Getting out early and jumping out to a lead was certainly big for us," said third-year Rosewood coach Josh Smith. "Especially in this tournament, when we are playing a conference opponent early in the year."

Rosewood stretched its lead to 9-0 in the second inning.

Zach Grantham led off with a single and trotted home on Robert Franks' homer. Spring Creek starter Anthony Brogden issued back-to-back walks to Neal and Allen, and retired to the dugout.

Richards greeted reliever Tim Rogers with a two-RBI double. Bostic plated Richards with a single to complete the back-breaking rally.

"We have been hitting the ball well over the last three games, and that carried into tonight," Smith said. "At practice we have been trying to stress patience, and being able to put the ball in play no matter what the opponent throws at us."

Spring Creek broke into the scoring column in the third inning when Lucas Potter scored on an Alex Casey single. The run gave the visiting fans a glimmer of hope, only to have it snuffed out in the next Rosewood at-bat.

An Allen single, and a pair of Gator errors gave Rosewood a 10-1 lead.

The Eagles ended the contest via the mercy rule in the fifth frame, as Bostic singled home Rains for the second time.

Taylor Allen went the distance on the mound to earn the victory. The senior captain only allowed one earned run on three hits.

"Taylor is a leader, and you can't ask much more than what he's done, that's a senior stepping up for his team," Smith said. "He has had two good outings prior to tonight, and we haven't been able to give him the run support.

"He has been good so far for us."

The victory sets up a rematch of last year's championship against the Bulldogs. The Eagles prevailed 7-6 in an eight-inning thriller.

"Whenever you get Rosewood and Princeton playing, it's going to be a good game, because it's such a good rivalry," Smith said. "We always look forward to playing them. I really respect coach Proctor and his program.

"It should be fun."

The Gators face Dixon in the consolation game at 4 p.m.

"I thought we'd come out ready to play, especially against our biggest rival, but tonight they jumped on us early and they were ready to go," said second-year Spring Creek coach Heath Whitfield. "We got ourselves in a hole, and never got out."

"Our pitching has been pretty good, with tonight being an exception, and the fielding has been our Achilles heel thus far. We have to come out tomorrow afternoon and turn it around."

Bulldogs use long ball to topple Dixon

Strong winds turned Bulldog Field into a launching pad on day one of the 2008 Deacon Jones Classic.

Princeton definitely benefited from the conditions. Ryan and Dillon Daughtry combined for three home runs as the reigning Class 1-A state champions turned back Holly Ridge Dixon, 5-4.

The Bulldogs (4-5 overall) face archrival Rosewood in today's championship game at 7 p.m. Dixon, of the Coastal Plains 1-A Conference, faces Spring Creek at 4 p.m.

J.J. Schoonover put Dixon ahead on the game's third pitch when he smacked a home run. Princeton knotted the contest at 1-1 on Dillon Daughtry's second-inning, RBI double which scored Benton Myers.

Daughtry finished the day 3-for-3.

Dixon answered with Chris Huie's two-run homer and it appeared Princeton might be headed to the consolation game.

"I was really impressed with how they handled themselves in the batter's box," Princeton coach Bruce Proctor said. "We are glad to have Dixon in our tournament because they are a good team, and specifically, a well-coached team."

Daughtry took over in the fourth.

After brother Ryan mashed a lead-off homer, Dillon ripped a tape-measure shot to put Princeton in front 4-3. Dixon tied the game in the sixth, but Daughtry hit a wind-aided, two-run homer that eventually counted for just one run.

The over-zealous Daughtry passed a teammate, who tagged up at first to see if the ball would be caught. Daughtry was automatically out, while the runner from first scored for the 5-4 final.

"Dillon did a good job at the plate. He got some balls up, and was able to get them out of here," Proctor said. "In the short time that we have been back to practice, we've been working on being aggressive at the plate and on the bases.

"As long as our mistakes are aggressive mistakes I can live with that."

Myers scored three runs for Princeton. Teammates Patrick Jacobs and Michael Radford each reached base on multiple occasions.

Ryan Daughtry pitched the final two innings and earned the win in relief of starter Chris Hinton.

"Tomorrow we want to go out and work on Princeton baseball, no matter who we play," Proctor said. "We worry about Rosewood and Spring Creek in conference play, so right now we want to go out and continue to get better, play our best and hopefully get a win."
